Web Design 2015

What’s the hottest trend in web design for 2015 ? There’s not just one trend, there’s five! We’ve scoured the Internet to find the freshest and favorite design elements that have made their way to the top. Here’s your retrospective of the hottest trends of 2015 and how you can add them to your own website design. Without further ado, let’s take a look:

What’s the hottest trend in web design for 2015

1. Background Video

Background video is probably the hottest trend of 2015, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The reason background video is so ubiquitous in website design is because this media is so compelling. Compared to other forms of information, the brain can process visuals 60,000 times faster. Whenever you can incorporate moving visuals into your website experience, you can instantly capture your audience.   Take a look at what the design team at Pal Zileri did with this spellbinding set of background videos. It’s nearly impossible to look away.   If you’d like to add video to your site, it doesn’t have to cost an arm and leg. In fact, you can start experimenting for free by checking out videos from sites like Life of Vids and Pexel Videos.

2. High Resolution Stock

Right up there with fullscreen background video is high resolution stock photos. We’ve not talking about those cheesy stock photos, but authentic, high-level, beautiful art, like you see on sites like Secret Wood and Golda.   We’ve recently wrote a list of the top places to get free and high quality stock images . Be sure to bookmark that page because you’ll love it.

3. Large Typography

Keeping with the trend of going big (or going home), web design in 2015 leans towards extra large typography. It may be in your face, but it’s never obnoxious. Large typography in recent web design is both playful and bold. Check out this delightful typography animation by Fivefootsix. As you scroll through the site, you’ll see large type used throughout.   Don’t shy away from going big with your font type. Experiment with font sizes. If it makes you blush, you’re probably at the right size. Check out DaFont or Font Squirrel for free fonts to use in your web design.

4. Flat Design

Flat design is pretty much the opposite of three dimensional design. In flat design, there’s no drop shadows or gradients that give the perception of depth. It’s simple and clean and often brightly colored.   Flat design can be added to your website as a full-on design, like you see with Leodis Lager, or it can be sprinkled subtly in your design with flat icons .

5. Infinite Scroll

Remember how everyone used to be focused on putting all the important information about your site “above the fold”? There was a fear that if you forced your audience to scroll, they would just leave without knowing there was more information below.   Those days are fading. Nowadays, the trend is to add infinite scroll to your site. People have thumbs and they will scroll. And not only that, they actually want to scroll. Site visitors automatically expect to scroll.   One of my favorite infinite scroll sites is De Haus. When you come to the end of the page, it starts to scroll from the beginning again-- an infinite loop!

Final Thoughts

You can definitely add elements of these hot trends to your own web design. These trends are actually getting hotter, so it’s not too late to add them to your site. Which trend is your favorite? link to the top stock photo library list article here, please link to the top icon sets list here
